Day in the Life

An interview with Jeff and Jim Brower, father and son residents of the
    Stadium Scholarship Program
Jeff Brower is an 18 year old freshman in his second quarter at Ohio State.
His father, Jim Brower, was a resident of the program from the fall of 1972 through
spring 1975. This is their story of SSP life as told to the editor.

Where did you live while you were in the program?

Jeff: Scholars East on W. 10th Ave., 3rd floor.

Jim: Unit FF in the Stadium. We were on the first floor at the North end. We “got to” listen to every band practice.

What was your Major and course load?

Jeff: Astronautical Engineering. My course load for the autumn quarter was not as hard as I thought it would be, but the classes I took were mostly basic freshman classes. I had 15 credit hours for autumn, and I have 18 for winter.

Jim: Started in Pre-Med (Biology) and ended up in Natural Resources.

How would you describe the dorm food?

Jeff: The food here has blown away my expectations. There is a great selection, and many locations to get food around campus. It is great to have the marketplace on 10th so close to our house.

Jim: The only food option we had was the cafeteria in the Stadium dorm. Three meals offered each day and two on Sunday. No extended hours, and minimal choices, plus we cooked it ourselves (under the direction of several staff cooks).

Who was your room mate? Tell me a little about them.

Jeff: My room mate’s name is Yosef Schiff. Coming into school not knowing my room mate was a little scary, but meeting and living with new people has taught me to have an open mind and to try new things.

Jim: John Hein. We roomed together 8 quarters. He was a great roommate as we both had the same tolerances and never bothered each other at all. I also remember, Mark Stewart, Al Dentino, Irv Goldberg, “Bird” Kerr, Terry Schroeder, David Grierson, Jim (Dave’s roommate), Scott Holmes, Jim Longnecker. These guys all had unique personalities and mannerisms that stick with me for a lifetime. We were a very close bunch because we had our own unit identity (as most units did).

What did you do as a resident for your coop work?

Jeff: I am currently on the community service board. This job consists of doing community service work on<
